How do I know if I have a non-condensing boiler
First and foremost, consult your boiler's user manual, as it is the most convenient source of information. Take a moment to verify the installation date of your boiler, which should be mentioned within the manual or on the boiler itself.
Should your boiler have been installed post-April 2005, it is highly likely that you possess a condensing boiler. This is due to new regulations being implemented during that period, which mandated that all newly-manufactured boilers must be condensing boilers.
Next, examine your flue, which is an essential component in your boiler system. The flue can typically be found protruding from an external wall or the roof of your property. In case you discover that your boiler's flue is composed of metal, you can deduce that it is most probably a non-condensing boiler. Metal flues are a common characteristic of older, non-condensing boiler models.
Lastly, inspect your drainpipe for further indications. A visible release of steam from your flue, coupled with a white plastic pipe connected to a drain, signifies that your boiler is indeed a condensing boiler. These white plastic pipes are specifically designed to handle the acidic condensation created by the more energy-efficient condensing boilers, thus serving as a reliable identifier.
